An individual's success is rarely achieved individually. Often, success is the cumulative effect of making the right choices. Along the way, there are others who help us make those 'right choices.' Who has helped you, inspired you, motivated you, or in any other way, played a part in your decision making to achieve the successes you have to this point in your life?

Write a blog in the form of a thank you letter to a specific individual who has influenced your decision making process that has brought you to where you are today, or has inspired you to be something more.

Dear ________,

Body of letter...

Sincerely,

Your Name

Dear Mom, I would like to start off by thanking you for all you have done for me that has got me to where I am. Without your guidance and persistence for me to do better, I think I would just be stuck with the mentality of “it’s good enough.” You have helped me make the right decisions ever since I was little. Your guidance has set me down the right path to do better for myself and also to do good for others. You have always been there to make sure I did all my work and studied for every test. I’ll never forget the late nights you stayed up to help quiz me for my test the next day. You have been more than an inspiration to me. I don’t want to ever let you down. I will always continue to try my best to make you proud. Love, Janel

Last week you wrote a blog expressing your views about problems in the school. Now it's time to see if you can solve one or more of those problems.

  1. Choose any problem raised by one of your peers in last week's blog and write a plan for addressing the problem.
  2. Then in your response, support one of your peer's posts by stating how you will help make his or her plan work.
After reading through the blogs, I agreed with Ciara Vasquez about the lack of unity we have as a class. A way we can address this problem is by planning more social activities. I think the more events we all partake with one another, the more we will begin to like one another. This is our last year to become friends with people we never thought we would. The way I can help make Ciara’s plan work to unite everyone is by creating more school events that will bring more communication towards one another. The lack of communication is the main cause of this problem so by creating events where everyone can get along and feel comfortable, our cliques will be broken and our school will become more united.

What are the biggest issues affecting the school? Be specific without using names or any identifiable clues.

I think one of the biggest issues in our school is pregnancy. There are way too many pregnant girls in our school. It seems to be increasing as the years go on. Another major issue is how our senior class is so divided. Everybody turns to their cliques and just ignores anybody else who is around them. This is our last year to be friends with the people we went to high school with so why not make the best of it and get to know everyone. I think our school should plan more events like the senior barbeque coming up this Saturday that will hopefully bring everyone together. Also, our high school is filled with drama and rumors that are mostly settled the wrong way. It’s the pointless fights and arguments that lead to broken friendships. This is our last year and it’s the perfect time to mend any friendship that was ended in the past.

Where will you be a year from now and what will you be doing? (If you don't know where you're going, how will you know when you've gotten there? Luck? )

What is your plan to get there? (If you fail to plan, you plan to fail. )

What obstacles will you have to overcome to GITERDUN? (If you always do what you've always done, you'll always get what you've always got)

A year from now I see myself training in boot camp for the Navy. My plan to get there is by staying focused and not letting anything get in my way to knock me down from reaching my goal to be everything I can be in it. I would like to succeed and reach my highest rank. I want to prove to not only my family but to myself that I’m capable of doing something not many people can do. I know I will have to continue to get good grades in school to graduate so I can be able to enlist next year. Some obstacles I may have to overcome to GITERDUN are finishing my last year of high school. I know I will not have a problem in overcoming this obstacle because when I set a goal in my life I let nothing get in my way of not letting me GITERDUN.
